About us
A Better Referendum is a collaboration between the Electoral Reform Society, the University of Sheffield, the University of Westminster and the University of Southampton. It is a platform for members of the public to come together, get the facts about the EU Referendum and have informed discussions and debates. It is inspired by the vibrancy of public debate around the Scottish independence referendum, and by the success of a previous project of ours – the award winning UK Citizens' Assemblies, which took place in late 2015.
We saw members of the public organise meetups all around the UK, using our Better Referendum tool to host lively, well informed and engaging debates. They got to choose the issues they wanted to discuss, and hear relevant facts from experts as well as arguments from the two campaigns.
